If you are silly or “bigoted” enough to say “that is a man”, then you will have committed the modern equivalent of thought crime, and be punished for it.
When newspapers abolish the use of “pregnant woman” and endorse “pregnant people”, they are essentially saying that they accept that the most hardcore trans rights activists are correct, and their opponents are incorrect. It is not reporting, it is activism.
And so, it makes it much easier for Boris and Co to sell a simple message about Starmer: This guy is a weirdo who does not know what a woman is.
A remarkable reflection, this story, of just how toxic the Trans rights debate (if it can truly be called a debate) has become in the United Kingdom, and how toxic it is slowly becoming here in Ireland. Rosie Duffield is the Labour MP for Canterbury, in Kent. Until now, she’s mostly been famous for winning […]
Come off it.
The American Medical Association is not some sort of pound-shop outfit. If you have never heard of it, then know this: It is the largest association of doctors and medical practitioners in the United States. It has almost a quarter of a million members, and annual revenue of about $350million. For decades, it has been […]
Imagine a situation where some country – let us say China, since they’re not historically averse to training Olympic athletes from childhood – was found to have provided masses of testosterone to its female weightlifters from the ages of 12 to 25 while training them to enter the Olympic weightlifting competition later in life. In […]
As a rule, Irish media outlets cannot comment on matters that are under consideration in Irish courts. Generally speaking, we shouldn’t comment on matters under consideration in overseas courts, either, but for this story, it is worth making an exception: A LEADING feminist campaigner has been charged with a hate crime for posting allegedly homophobic […]
At about two o’clock yesterday afternoon, RTE’s “liveline” programme erupted into one of those classic “liveline” debates that makes the country tick. The subject, of course, was the announcement by the Department of Education that from yesterday forth, all new toilets in Irish schools, as well as all renovations of existing toilets in Irish schools, […]
Whenever you see something this tin-eared, there are really only two possibilities worth considering. The first is that the Labour Party, and its advisers, live in such a bubble that they genuinely don’t know how weird and odd it seems to normal people to assert that periods and menstruation are a gender-neutral experience. The second? […]
Interesting fact of the day, for those of you who don’t think so much about the words you use: “Amen”, which christian people customarily say at the end of a prayer, doesn’t actually have anything to do with men. It’s derived from Ancient Hebrew, the language of the jewish people at the time of the […]
Some recent dissembling on the part of Amnesty Ireland has reminded me of a previous instance when that organisation engaged in disingenuous sophistry. As someone who agrees with the majority of positions taken by Amnesty Ireland, I find such behaviour disappointing. While there are many contemporary issues where reasonable people may differ, it seems worthwhile […]
