This is important because it goes to the very basic question about whether you, as a member of the public, can trust the things you read.
RTE has two things going for it: Patronage, and inertia.
RTÉ does not deserve a life buoy, in its present crisis. It deserves a lustily thrown anchor.
The anomaly gets coverage, the normal gets tumbleweed.
This is not a situation where small changes are going to work.

“A blow to media freedom.”
Make the licence fee optional – then those who trust RTE can pay for it.
Many jobs “will no longer exist as they do today.”
This is worth remembering, the next time you hear a pious lecture about fake news and trustworthy sources.
