Democracy is a much poorer form of Government in practice, in many cases, than it is in theory. The theory of it, as we all know, is straightforward: People vote in secret for their representatives, and their representatives then act in the interests of their voters. If they fail to do so, those representatives can be replaced.
In practice, it’s a very different affair, as Irish farmers are in the process of finding out.
