Age UK, the charity for the elderly, and former Pensions Minister Ros Altmann warn that pensioners ‘risk freezing to death this winter because soaring energy bills will force many to switch off their heating’, with rocketing heating bills blamed on ‘[r]ising inflation and escalating prices’ (‘Elderly “could freeze to death as bills rocket”’, Daily Express, January 3, 2022)
However, these ‘escalating prices’ are being caused by the mania for ‘protecting the environment’: ‘decarbonisation’ is estimated to cost trillions of pounds, and the refusal to allow us to use our own abundant sources of energy makes us dependent on foreign coal and gas, held hostage to the price hikes of Russia and China.
The ‘green’ approach sees ‘behavioural changes’ like switching off or turning down domestic heating as essential, with little thought given to the effects on those most vulnerable to the cold – and given the obsession of leading ‘environmentalists’ with the idea of people as a ‘plague’ on the earth, both the very young and the very old must pay for this anti-human ideology the ultimate price of their lives.
‘Saving the pensioners’ must give way to ‘saving the Planet’, and it is tragic, if rather ironic, that the most vulnerable among us may end up freezing to death because of global warming.
