There are some weeks that give the impression that we live more in a classroom lead by a deranged teacher than in a country and this was one of them, as Coimisiún na Meán published its extensive GEDI strategy, as Dr Ebun Joseph was appointed Ireland’s new racism czar, and as the HSE told its staff to avoid gendered words like “manpower”.
It seems we have a lot of boldness in us and it’s going to take, as parenting experts say, consistent, corrective action to undo, which is what many of this week’s developments are about: helping us to recognise the ways in which we deviate from the new, State-backed good, and how to conduct ourselves better in future so that we don’t do it again.
