WATCH: Suíochán do Dhiarmaidín – famed singer remembered 

Famed sean-nós singer and broadcaster Diarmaidín Ó Súilleabháín has been remembered with a special memory bench which has been placed in his honour near to the spot where he died in a tragic accident more than 30 years ago. 

As TG4 tweeted: “Ag machnamh seal liom féinig ag déanamh mo smaointe …”. Suíochán cuimhneacháin in onóir an amhránaí as Cúil Aodha Diarmaidín Ó Súilleabháin curtha gar don áit ar bhásaigh sé i nDún Chaoin.

Bhailigh slua de chairde and clainne Dhairmaidín chun an bheannú den suíochán a cheiliúradh agus a shaol agus a oidhreacht a chuimhniú. Thárla an tragóid i 1991.

Diarmaidín, one of a renowned family of singers, musicians and storytellers from the Cúil Aodh Gaeltacht, was widely praised for his evocative and powerful renditions of songs such as Carraig Aonair, Cath Céim an Fhia, and Ógánaigh an Chúil Chraobhaigh.

Dúirt a dhearthaireacha, Éoiní agus Danny, gur fearr an suíochán ná dealbh mar go ndeanfadh daoine cuimhne ar Dhiarmaidín agus iad ag breathnú amach ar an radharc álainn.
