There’s an inherent conflict awaiting the country between the imperatives of the tourism season – tourists pay more, remember – and the country’s reliance on hotels for refugee accommodation.
This type of immigration is in no ways comparable to the Irish moving to the wider English speaking world to integrate with people they have much in common.
None of this is a matter of race. It is as insane to import thousands of dark-skinned young men to live in abandoned office blocks as it would be to import thousands of light skinned young men to live in abandoned office blocks
What’s interesting is that this week, I haven’t heard an answer to any of them. I’ve heard a lot of people being called racists, though.
It is elitism, and in Ireland, elitism is out of control.
The shame here is not theirs. The shame is on the rest of us, who shut up for fear of being called a racist by a vapid clown dressed as a woman.
The policy will have to change. Or, in time, the people will change the policymakers.
