I am hesitant, here, to accuse the Journal of consciously serving a nefarious agenda – but I am entirely comfortable in noting that a nefarious agenda exists which is served, even unconsciously, by this nonsense.
After all, everybody knows that misinformation can only come from the hated “far right”, right?
Any honest conversation about misinformation would include the basic fact that the greatest purveyors of misinformation in any democracy – not only Irelands – are elected politicians and unelected political actors.
This is worth remembering, the next time you hear a pious lecture about fake news and trustworthy sources.
The only permissible solution is to shout louder and louder a message that people are increasingly rejecting.
During covid, people were not just banned for vaccine conspiracy theories. They were also banned for reasonable questions.
