“Fear really drives numbers,” said Charlie Chester, a technical director at CNN, during a series of fake Tinder dates set up by Project Veritas.
“Covid? Gangbusters with ratings,” Chester told the undercover journalist.
“Which is why we constantly have the death toll on the side. It would make our point better if [the death toll] was higher.

Chest said this in reference to the covid death count which appeared on the side of the screen during every CNN news broadcast, until Joe Biden was elected, whereupon it was promptly removed.

The Project Veritas journalist, who has not been identified but claims to be a nurse, went on five fake dates with the CNN staffer over an undisclosed period of time.
During one of these dates, Chester explained why the network focused so much on Covid-19, saying that “Fear is the thing that really keeps you tuned in.” He added that he had “a major problem with how we’re tallying how many people die every day, because I’ve even looked at it and been like…‘Let’s make it higher.’ Like, why isn’t high enough, you know, today?
“Like, this special red phone rings and they pick it up and it’s, like, the head of the network being like, ‘There’s nothing that you’re doing right now that makes me want to stick. Put the numbers back up. Because that’s the most enticing thing that we have.’ So things like that are constantly talked about.”
In another part of the Project Veritas report, Chester revealed that his network produced “propaganda” to oust former US President Donald Trump during the 2020 election.
“Look at what we did, we got Trump out,” said Chester.

“Look what we did,” he said. “We got Trump out. I am 100% going to say it, and I 100% believe that if it wasn’t for CNN, I don’t know that Trump would have got voted out.
“Our focus was to get Trump out of office, right? Without saying it, that’s what it was,” adding that he had decided to work at CNN because he “wanted to be a part of that.”
Additionally, Chester described how the network had exaggerated Trump’s health issues by having on medical experts.
“[Trump’s] hand was shaking or whatever, I think. We brought in so many medical people to all tell a story that was all speculation – that he was neurologically damaged, and he was losing it. He’s unfit to, you know, whatever. We were creating a story there that we didn’t know anything about. I think that’s propaganda.”
The CNN staffer added that though the network played up footage of Biden jogging and wearing aviators to make him seem “healthy” and “young”, he wouldn’t mind if Biden died, because he thought that Vice President Kamala Harris was “f**king real.”
After CNN allegedly accused Project Veritas of being taken off Twitter for spreading “misinformation”, founder and director James O’Keefe announced that he would be suing the network for defamation.
