Women protest at Limerick female prison where Barbie Kardashian is still held

Women’s groups have held protests at the opening of a new wing of Limerick’s prison, saying that men should not be held in female prisons. Violent transgender prisoner Barbie Kardashian is held in the women’s prison.

“At the opening of the new wing of Limerick’s prison where one of the men housed in the women’s estate threatened to rape female guards,” the Irish Women’s Lobby tweeted.

Minister Simon Harris was visiting the prison at the time to officially open a new 102-cell “state of the art” B-wing.

The women protesting said that the Minister had ” refused to engage with the women to discuss our serious concerns”.

Limerick prison has become a point of particular controversy because two violent biological male transgender prisoners are currently being housed in the women’s prison.

Both prisoners are sex offenders. One of the transgender prisoners has ten convictions for sexual assault and a conviction for threatening to break his step-son’s arms and legs.

Another is Barbie Kardashian, who has also been found guilty of seven counts of threatening to kill, rape, torture or cause serious harm to his mother.

Harris told the Limerick Leader: “It is really important that when it comes to prisoners being held regardless of who he or she is then they are housed in a way that absolutely at its core has the safety of the prison population and the people working in the prison community.”

The women’s groups said that a podcast by reporter Paddy O’Gorman had highlighted “the fear the women prisoners live with every day as the men shout violent sexual abuse at them.”

“This is a gross violation of the prisoners’ human rights. Every day with these men is one day too much.”
