A beautiful video of two grandparents re-united after a hospital stay has prompted much admiration and praise from viewers, who were struck by the “pure love” between the spouses captured by their family as they were reunited.
Harry and Madeline Ashton have been married for 65 years, and live in Belfast with many of their close, loving family nearby. They are adored by everyone, their grand-daughter Charlene told Gript, and their family and friends see them as “the true meaning of true love” and the “solid rock” for their family.
Over Christmas Madeline needed to stay in hospital for two weeks, and it was decided that Harry might be at risk during winter visits with so many viruses causing issues in hospitals. It meant that the devoted couple didn’t see each other for two weeks – their longest time ever apart.
Their grand daughter Leah McCabe captured the special moment when Madeline surprised Harry by coming home from hospital unannounced.
“They don’t make a love like this anymore. Surprising Granda with nanny coming home
there really isn’t a love like theirs,” she wrote on Facebook.
“My granda’s wee face. Nearly 2 weeks apart when they’ve never spent 10 minutes away from each other.
Really makes my heart swell how special is this. I am truly blessed to have my great grandparents.”
The video elicited thousands of responses on social media, with many respondents saying they had shed a tear or two at the love and devotion captured in the moment.
“How beautiful – the richest people in the world to have such a lifetime love, brought a tear to the eye,” said one woman. “His face lighting up is just beautiful,” said another.
“Bless, true love, wee Grandad was out of that chair like a wee lad,” was one observation, while many observations were made about how the inspiring message of long-lasting love and affection sent a lesson to the world.
“Our beautiful Nanny and Granda, we’re so blessed and thankful to have them both in all our lives. No one compares to them,” grandaughter Charlene Murray said. Seems like thousands who have now shared in that special moment agree.
