WATCH: Everyone is loving Roy Keane on Sky saying the hurling final is better than the Superbowl

You can’t beat the game of hurling – and everyone is loving what football star Roy Keane told Sky Sports about his all-time favourite sporting event.

Asked if a Superbowl was the one big sporting event that you should get to in a lifetime, Keane opted for the ancient game of hurling instead.

“I think the hurling All-Ireland final is hard to beat,” Keane said. “A really great day out. Especially if Cork are playing, my hometown.”

And he named Jimmy Barry Murphy, the legendary Cork hurler, as one of his three favourite sports stars of all time.

“I would go with Muhammad Ali,” Keane said in response to the question. “I love watching any of his old fights, his interviews. The influence he had on people, a superstar all over the world. Amazing.

“Growing up in Ireland,” he added, “the GAA was a big part of my life, hurling; watching Jimmy-Barry Murphy playing for Cork. Brilliant sportsman.

“And watching Barry McGuigan on the television. We’d all be glued to it.”

Hurling has been described as the fastest ball game on grass and one of the most skilful games in the world. The first record of a hurling match describes an epic encounter that took place in 1272 BC between the Fir Bolg and the Tuatha Dé Dannan at Maigh Tuartha near Cong in County Mayo
