US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has said that the United States can “absolutely” afford two wars, between Israel versus Palestine and Ukraine versus Russia.
The Secretary made the remarks today during an exclusive interview with Wilfred Frost of Sky News about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Frost quoted American billionaire investor Paul Tudor Jones, who told CNBC recently that “This is the most threatening and challenging geopolitical environment that I have ever seen, at the same time the US is in its weakest fiscal position since World War 2, with debt to GDP at 122%.”
He then asked Yellen: “Can America – can the West – another war at this time?”
Yellen replied: “I think the answer is absolutely.”

“America can certainly afford to stand with Israel and to support Israel’s military needs. And we also can, and must, support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. And, look: the American economy is doing extremely well.”
She went on to say: “We do need to come up with funds, both for Israel and for Ukraine. This is a priority. It’s really up to the House to find, seat a speaker and to put us in a position where legislation can be passed.”
The statement comes amid claims that US President Joe Biden may soon visit Israel at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid the country’s ongoing conflict with Hamas.
