Man who assaulted his ex threatening to “smash” her head in is jailed.
A man who assaulted his ex partner threatening to “smash” her head in and calling her a bitch and a whore has been jailed.
The Sunday World reported that the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons but came to Ireland from overseas 14 years ago, assaulted the woman with her young child present.
The court heard that the man and the injured party had been involved in a volatile relationship for some years and that he had hit the woman on her head and body and threatened to kill her. He left the premises at about 1am.
Four days after this the man came back and pushed his way into the property again before verbally abusing the woman and threatening to kill her. He took her phone and smashed it on this occasion. The victim’s child was present.
A victim impact statement said that the woman lived in “sheer fear” of the man and that she would become afraid when she saw a car that looked like the one he drove.
The man admitted to assaulting the women but disputed the details provided by his ex partner with a probation report outlining that the man “has distorted views on intimate partner violence” and is deemed to be at moderate risk of reoffending.
Judge Orla Crowe, who jailed the man for 16 months, heard that he no longer resides in Ireland.
