Right now, most likely, Jack Chambers is preparing his first national budget – which seems bizarre since, no disrespect to the man, he looks like he just sat his Leaving Cert, and seems to have has the same level of financial qualifications as someone who has. Luckily for him, however, the country is awash with cash.
We’ve just landed €13 billion the government didn’t want from Apple (though we’ll likely pay a price for that in the long-term), but the really good news is that despite the host of problems his colleagues in Cabinet don’t seem capable of fixing, those marvellous Corporation Tax receipts have given Minister Chambers the kind of funds that make a giveaway budget coming just before an election entirely possible.
