A teenage tourist was slashed with a knife in Smithfield Dublin leaving him cut from his mouth to his ear in an early morning knife attack.
The 19-year-old who was visiting Dublin for a short time with a friend of the same age was taken to the Mater Hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the assault.
The Sunday World reported that the young man was standing outside a shop when he and his friend were approached by a male who brandished a knife and demanded that they hand over their phones.
A Garda spokesperson said, “Gardaí at Bridewell garda station are appealing for witnesses following the assault of a young man in Smithfield, Dublin, on Friday, June 7,”
“Gardaí responded to reports of an assault at Smithfield Square, Dublin 7, shortly after 1.30am on June 7.
“A 19-year-old male was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and was later discharged.”
Three days ago a murder investigation was launched after a man suffered fatal stab wounds in the Finglas area of Dublin.
The victim was later identified as 34-year-old father of two Mark Carroll.
Caroll was rushed to Connolly Hospital in the early hours of the 9th of June last but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigations are ongoing.
Last week a man who the Irish Sun reported is believed to be a friend of Josh Itsali who was gunned down in Drimnagh was targeted in a machete attack which took place in the area of Mercer Street Dublin 2.
The man in his twenties was reportedly attacked by two men with “Gardai saying at the time that they “received a report of an incident of assault that occurred at approximately 2:20pm on the 4th of June 2024 on Mercer Street, Dublin 2.”
“One man aged in his 20s was conveyed to St James’s Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during this incident.
“Gardai are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to this incident and investigations are ongoing at this time.”
Gardaí have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
