I have been thinking a lot about dogs. This is what you do when you get older and spend more time with them. Like the Tom T Hall song, old dogs and children and watermelon wine.  I shall take a pass on the watermelon wine.

They are endlessly fascinating creatures. ‘Do they have souls?’ was one of the questions that exercised early theologians. St Thomas Aquinas decided that our dog people do. Indeed, one of the attributes of western Christian culture is that our dog friends have become such an intimate part of our lives. Our treatment of other creatures is another matter.

There are two old dogs sleeping beside me now, and one old dog typing. None of us are probably long for this world. We all come from the one infinitesimal point of creation. That is my probably meaningless thought for the day.
