There exists, in this state of ours, a truly remarkable person: An employee of the Department of An Taoiseach who has been, at the time of writing, on a career break for a dozen years.
This information, as the Irish Times first reported yesterday, was disclosed to Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice after a series of parliamentary questions. I can only assume that the Deputy had received some kind of tip-off that prompted him to put the question in, because that’s exactly the kind of nonsensical thing that it simply wouldn’t occur to most of us to ask.
