It’s very difficult, in times like these, to be both a committed friend of the Palestinian revolution, and at the same time pose as a leading voice in the global tech sector, much of which has close business ties to Israel. If you don’t believe me, just ask poor old Paddy Cosgrave.
Last week, as the Palestinian Resistance ™ began their glorious campaign against Israeli women and children, Paddy found himself in the same country as the leaders of Hamas: Qatar, where he was attending the Qatari Grand Prix ahead of the latest iteration of the Web Summit which is due to be held in the Arab statelet later this autumn. His initial reactions were as full of sympathy for the Israelis as you might expect of a Sinn Fein-aligned, self-described man of the left. His very first tweet on the subject was to worry about blowback for the political party which he supports:
