One of the young children who suffered serious injuries in a knife attack on Parnell Square in Dublin has stood up for the first time since the incident in 2023, her family has reported.
In an update on a fundraising page, her family shared that she has made “great” progress since returning home last November and that she had “made strides” in her recovery.
Now six years old, she was one of three children injured in the stabbing outside Coláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square East on November 23rd 2023. A woman in her 30s, who was acting as a carer, was also wounded in the attack.
Her family stated that she was able to stand with the help of physiotherapists.
“Yesterday was a major day: our little girl stood up for the first time,” a message on the page read.
“Assisted by two physiotherapists, one on each side, she planted her two feet on the ground and stood tall.
“The physios said she was putting weight on her legs, which is a good sign.
“She has also made strides in her arm and hand movements, neck control, and back strengthening.
“Being around her everyday has been rewarding. It is full-on dedication, even with help, but this is what needs to happen right now.
“Let us keep powering through,” they said.
