As a journalist you have to read some things that really make your heart sink. You have to read details of court evidence which outline the kind of cruelty and abuse that wouldn’t enter into your worst nightmares all the while knowing that it’s all real.
It has an effect on you not only because you see your loved ones reflected in the sometimes nameless victims and you feel some small part of what those victims’ loved ones must feel.
