This week, as Education Minister Norma Foley announced an investigation into historical cases of sexual abuse in Irish religious schools between 1927 and 2013, she became visibly emotional while addressing the media. With a shaky voice, the Minister recounted to journalists the harrowing stories of lifelong pain and suffering that had been reported by childhood victims of these schools, and she was obviously deeply moved by their testimony, as I’m sure we all are.
