The Irish government is in the process of creating an an “environmental court” which will be staffed by High Court judges in conjunction with the proposed Planning and Development Bill 2023.
The Bill, which is almost 700 pages long, is the third largest Bill in the history of the Irish state, and has been described by the government as “radical.” Its stated aim is to “bring greater clarity, certainty and consistency to how planning decisions are made.”
