The German Newspaper Der Spiegel, renowned for its world-class fact-checking, has reported that Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service, the BND, believes that Xi Jinping, leader of China’s Communist Party [CCP], personally asked the head of the WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to “hold back” information on human-to-human transmission of COVID-19 and to delay declaring that the outbreak had become a pandemic. The request is said to have been made on January 21st.
The BNP say that this delay cost the world 4 to 6 weeks of time it could have spent conatining the virus.
The conduct of the WHO has repeatedly come under fire since the COVID-19 outbreak began, with a particular focus on the influence the CCP has over the organization, the CCP’s apparent cover-up of the early stages of the outbreak, the WHO’s refusal to acknowledge Taiwan, and the allegation that Dr Tedros covered up 3 cholera outbreaks during his time as the Minister for Health of Ethiopia.
The WHO has denied the allegations, saying that the reported conversation had never happened, the allegations were “unfounded and untrue”, and that, “such inaccurate reports distract and detract from WHO’s and the world’s efforts to end the COVID-19 pandemic.”
