Amazon to lay off 10,000 staff globally

NYT reports

Online retail giant Amazon, which employs some 5,000 people in Ireland, is now set to slash up to 10,000 positions from its workforce globally.

Breaking the news, the New York Times revealed the staff cuts will be made in corporate and technology roles beginning as early as this week.

The news follows other tech company staff cuts at mega corporations such as Twitter, Meta and online payments company, Stripe.

Recently, Amazon became the first public company ever to lose $1 trillion, according to Bloomberg.

Amazon’s stock lost around 48% of its value this year – down from a dizzying height in July when the company‚Äôs market cap neared $1.9 trillion.

However, after Amazon predicted a Christmas sales slowdown its market value fell below the $1 trillion mark.
