Air Canada flight attendants will no longer greet guests as “ladies and gentlemen” or  “mesdames et messieurs,” after changes in company policy to reflect claims of gender fluidity and non-binary identities.

The company will replace traditional on-board greetings with neutral addresses such as “everybody”.

Named as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2019, a media spokesperson said the changes will “remove specific references to gender”, thus “ensuring customers are comfortable and respected when they choose to travel with us.”

Canada’s largest state, Ontario, made history last year when it issued the world’s first non-binary birth certificate to Joshua Ferguson, who claims to have transitioned from male to non-binary and successfully sought to have his birth certificate reflect that.
