While recently travelling by public transport – ironically, given the subject – I heard someone give utterance yet again to one of the great cliches of Irish popular discourse over the past quarter century or more. To wit: “They should make Michael O’Leary Taoiseach.”
I assume, given that the chap was perusing his phone whilst declaiming to his companion, that he was likely referring to O’Leary’s recent prognostications on the public service strike. And perhaps directly to his prediction that the Government would “buckle” to the pay demands of the unions on behalf of their members.
