The Beef Plan Movement – which campaigns for better prices from the beef processors to farmers and which has been to the forefront of the opposition to the Mercosur deal – has highlighted what it believes is the contradictory position of Larry Murrin whose position as Chair of Bord Bia has come under criticism.
The focus of this is the fact that Murrin is a director and shareholder in Dawn Farm Foods which launched a joint venture in 2009 with a Brazilian company Minerva which centred on the creation of a 10,000 square metre state-of-the-art cooked meats processing facility in Brazil. Meat for export to EU countries including Ireland will be prepared at the facility.
