Last week brought us a little bit of cinema history, as the record for most Oscar nominations received by a film was smashed by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, a southern, gothic horror, that garnered 16 nominations, surpassing the three-way tie at 14 nominations held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.
While it may have been historic, it was also farcical, a joke that will only be outdone if Sinners breaks the record for the most Academy Awards won by a single movie (also a jointly held record, Ben-Hur, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King each having won 11).
