Advocacy groups often mutate into career-vehicles for those running them. If this requires a redefinition or enlargement of the group’s objectives, or even the criminalisation of any opposition, so be it. Thus the Irish Council for Civil Liberties has aligned itself with the floggem & hangem faction of the transgender cult. It has accordingly pronounced that schools must use the preferred name and pronouns of transgender students, who should also be allowed to use the “bathroom” (my italics) of their preferred gender … (and) if trans rights are not upheld by schools, colleges and businesses, trans people (can) take legal action against them.
This was not a policy statement by the armed wing of Transgender Liberation Front, issued from its surgically-mutilating heartland in the Mekong Delta, but from those nice people who traditionally have believed in civil liberties, the right to divorce and freedom of speech for all. But that was then: if you disagree with the state-subsidised ICCL now, it will apparently do its best to deprive you of your freedom of speech and to live according to your own principles. Say bye bye the Catholic Church, and whimper hello to the new Primate of All-Ireland, with a gelding or mastectomy shears instead of a crozier.
