A former Fine Gael politician has taken a trial date in relation to criminal charges he is facing.
Former Fine Gael politician, William ‘Bill’ Tormey (74), who has an address at Glasnevin Avenue, Glasnevin Dublin 11, with possession of child pornography and human trafficking, in respect of which he has indicated a plea of not guilty.
Tormey is charged that at his home address in Dublin 11 in said District Court Area of Dublin Metropolitan District, did knowingly have in his possession child pornography to wit, Seven Images of Child Pornography, as defined by the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998 contrary to Section 6(1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.
He is also charged that on the 04/08/2021 at Terminal 1, Dublin Airport , Swords, Co. Dublin in said District Court Area of Dublin Metropolitan District, did knowingly facilitate the entry into the State of a person whom he knew or had reasonable cause to believe was an illegal immigrant or a person who intended to seek asylum contrary to Section 2 of the Illegal Immigrants (Trafficking) Act, 2000.
Tormey was remanded on continuing bail to and will stand trial in March 2027.
