There were conflicting responses to my reference to GDP figures in relation to the ESRI report and the Irish state’s dependence on Foreign Direct Investment, and consequently the impact of the labour practises of the large corporations on the seismic demographic change that has been underway in the past decade and is forecast to continue for the foreseeable future.
Some commentators clearly hold the view, in common with the entire Irish political, economic and media establishment, that all of this is somehow only a reflection of the “common sense” that guides the economic policy of the Irish state – policy clearly dictated to a huge extent by the corporations.
