The electoral victory of Republican US President-elect Donald Trump has been officially certified by his defeated Democrat opponent Kamala Harris.
Being the Vice President of the US, Harris was required by the US Constitution to ceremonially announce the results of the Presidential Election last November, formally declaring Trump as the President-elect, despite being his Democrat opponent who lost to him just months.
Today, from the floor of the US Congress, she presided over the certification of the election of Trump and his running mate JD Vance, after the house had gone through the electoral results for all 50 US States and Washington DC.
Cheers could be heard in the chamber as Harris called out the final total of electoral votes – 312 to Trump, and 226 to herself.
She smiled and concluded by saying: “The chair declares this joint session dissolved.”
Meanwhile, Trump posted jubilantly to his social media platform Truth Social.
“Congress certifies our great election victory today – a big moment in history. MAGA!” he said.
Donald Trump is set to be officially inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20, 2025, marking Trump’s return to office and his second presidential
inauguration.
JD Vance will take the oath of office as the 50th Vice President of the United States during the same ceremony, succeeding Kamala Harris as Vice President.
