Those of you who follow me on twitter might already have heard me mention this, but I was watching the cricket yesterday morning. Or, perhaps more accurately, the cricket was on in the background in my office while I was working. The current match between Pakistan and England in Multan is setting several records, and at the time of writing the English seem on course for a truly remarkable win…… but you don’t care about that.
What fascinated me – and I thought was worth mentioning here – happened not on the field of play, but during an ad break. At about 11am, Sky Sports One ran an ad in the Irish language featuring two people on a bed in the early stages of undress, with the man soothingly asking his female counterpart an bhuil gach rud ceart go leoir, or words to that effect. This was followed by a message on screen – again as gaelige – about the importance of seeking consent from your partner before sexual activity.
