I don’t think we have any sort of sense yet of the way in which media consumption is changing, or the effect that is going to have on politics in the future. To give just two examples, how often do you think about YouTubers (i.e. the personalities who make their living off of ‘content creation’) or video games? If you’re over 35 (or even 30), probably not all that often, or if you’re a parent, probably only insofar as your kids discuss them.
You probably hear about RTÉ and The Irish Times on a daily basis, and this gives the unavoidable, probably unconscious impression that this is where everyone’s attention is directed too. The numbers tell a different story.
