For a week that’s included a few momentous events – the election of a Taoiseach, the release of the Cass Review in Britain, Donald Trump’s abortion switcheroo – it has, believe it or not, been a relatively slow week for news. In part, I think that’s because the news cycle moves so quickly that news becomes old very quickly: The “Dáil drama” around Harris’s election neither felt dramatic – because we all knew what would happen – nor newsworthy, since it already felt like Harris had received about six different installations or inaugurations long before he finally got his hands on the wheel of the ship of state. Nevertheless, there are a few observations worth making:
