I may as well start this week’s weekly roundup with the Olympic Games and, as is regularly the case, by risking the ire of my own “side” in the culture wars. I confess I think the situation in the Olympic women’s boxing is very sad.
On the one hand, it seems fairly clear that the two competitors at the centre of the controversy are biologically male. On the other hand, it also seems fairly clear that this is not the result of a choice to switch genders, but the likely presence of a very rare intersex condition that means they were born with female sex organs but male genetics – something that they are entirely blameless for.
