Drag queen Kitty Demure has released a viral message to parents about the dangers posed to children by events such as Drag Queen Story Hour.
In it, she chides parents who take their children to see drag queens, saying “I have absolutely no idea why you would want [drag queens] to influence your child. Would you want a stripper or porn star to influence your child?”

The video was given a lot of positive feedback on Twitter, with one mother accepting the vitriol that can come with defending her children, whilst lamenting the tragic death of Wilson Gavin who was bullied online for confronting another drag queen at a children’s event in Australia.
The reality is, the "community" is full of extremely vicious and irresponsible people. They think life is a big gay party. I have experienced much racism, sexism, hate and abuse in the community. They are very phony and fake.

Others wrote of their hopes that more drag queens would speak up against the Story Hour events:
I am much older and have lived through much worse. It would never cross my mind to back down or die. I have already been exiled by my local drag community.

One woman also shared about how her 11-year-old nephew has become involved in the drag scene, with his parent’s support:
No way! In a club setting?

Drag Queen Story Hour was founded in San Francisco and has taken North America by storm. Demure’s message however certainly seems to have resonated with a growing number of parent’s who see the events as leading to the early sexualisation of their children.
