According to media reports over the past week, one of the bones of contention within the governing coalition of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael has been over the recommendation by the Low Pay Commission that the hourly national minimum wage be increased by 79 cent. That would set the rate at €14.94.
It is not an inter-party spat as the main protagonists would seem to be Simon Harris the Fine Gael leader and Minister for Finance and his party colleague the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke.
