The Taoiseach has spoken with US President-elect Donald Trump this evening, during which Mr Harris congratulated the incoming president on his “comprehensive victory” in the recent election.
Mr Trump is due to take office January 20, 2025, having defeated democratic challenger Kamala Harris by popular vote, earning him 312 electoral college votes to her 226.
A statement from the Department of the Taoiseach this evening said that the pair “reflected on the strong and enduring ties between Ireland and the United States” and that they expressed a desire to meet soon.
They discussed the “many serious challenges the world faces,” including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Mr Trump extended his best wishes to the people of Ireland, with both he and the Taoiseach agreeing to stay in touch, according to the statement.
