Second silent march to take place in Oughterard today

A silent march in opposition to the opening of a direct provision centre without consultation with local people is planned for Oughterard today.

It is the second such march since the controversy began, and other villages in Galway have this week been sending messages of support to the people of Oughterard.

Some 1500 people took part in the first silent march a fortnight ago. Since then a 24 hour protest has been maintained at the Connemara Gateway Hotel, where building work had begun on the provision centre.
