Quietly, the 2020 election was a bad day out for the Healy Rae family, who secured a mere 32.8% of the votes of their fellow Kerrymen. Enough to hold the two seats, yes – but down fully 5% of the vote on their performance in 2016 when the family seat in the Dáil first bore offspring and multiplied from one to two.
Were that drop off in the Healy-Rae vote to accelerate, perhaps by another 5%, then one of the two seats – the one held by Danny – would be vulnerable. But there is no expectation from anyone that this reporter talks to that this will be the case.
