The crisis pregnancy support organisation, Gianna Care, has opened a new location for its services in Kerry in response to increased demand. The new location will boost already existing services provided from centres in Dublin and Galway, which reach out across the country.
Gianna Care says its new centre in Kerry will most of the services available in other locations including: pregnancy counselling, post-abortion counselling, emotional and financial support for women, free maternity and baby equipment and much more.
The organisation says they considered postponing the opening until a later point in time, however the increased demand for their services in other locations convinced them to go ahead and open, despite the circumstances.
“In the past few weeks since all the restrictions have been put in place we have seen an increase in calls from women who are needing a lot of emotional support and luckily we have been able to provide this support over the phone. It’s very important for us to be able to continue with this life affirming mission even through tough times like this,” they said in a statement.
They said that while the volunteers and staff were “looking forward to opening our doors to the public as soon as the restrictions lift” for the moment “we are just at the end of the phone and will do whatever we can for whomever needs us”.
The support organisation said that they had received many donations of baby items to date and were overwhelmed with the support we have been given so far, “including sponsorship for families in need in this crisis from so many good people.”
“We are here to offer the women of Kerry and Munster non-judgmental, care, compassion and support,” they said.
