The purpose of policy is to achieve its end. Policy is not a promise or an aspiration. It is intent with a planned outcome.
For the state whose leaders eighty years ago offered condolences upon the death of the architect of the Final Solution to have used its anniversary to condemn the state founded by the survivors of that Holocaust is not policy. It is unreal, posturing, bombastic madness, which is one reason why Israel despises Ireland. To the Israeli mind, this country reeks of humbug, wrapped in cowardice and festooned with unprincipled sanctimony. Nothing emanating from Iveagh House will command respect, especially if it has the initials “Senator Frances Black” all over it. Fact.
