Piers Morgan has quit his presenting role with ITV’s Good Morning Britain after questioning Meghan Markle’s claims in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The popular chat show host Piers Morgan has announced his departure from Good Morning Britain after he stormed off the set whilst discussing the controversial interview yesterday.
Morgan had claimed on Monday morning he “didn’t believe a word” of Markle’s claim she was suicidal.
ITV confirmed today that Morgan would not be returning to the channel’s flagship show.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add,” a spokesperson said.
Watchdog “Ofcom” had received 41,000 complaints about the broadcast, many of which reportedly related to Morgan’s dismissal of Markle’s claim that she unsuccessfully sought help within Buckingham Palace for suicidal thoughts.
“Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” he told viewers.
“The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family I think is contemptible.”
Morgan walked back some of his comments on Tuesday, telling viewers he still had “serious concerns” about the veracity of Markle’s claims, but that it was not “for me to question if she felt suicidal.”
“My real concern was a disbelief frankly… that she went to a senior member of the Royal household and told them she was suicidal and was told she could not have any help because it would be a bad look for the family.”

His co-presenter’s criticisms on the same show that he was “continuing to trash” the Duchess of Sussex prompted Morgan to walk off the set however.

Referring to her as the “Pinocchio Princess” on Twitter, Morgan posted a cryptic “Tick Tock” message to his followers this evening, the only statement so far from the talk show host.
