Sinn Féin are up in arms online about a testy interview with RTÉ on Wednesday where Mary Lou McDonald accused presenter Philip Boucher Hayes yesterday of using an “extremely rude” tone with her in an examination of the party’s new policy around asylum centres.
Listening back, I have to say Boucher Hayes certainly pressed her on detail regarding the policy, but he didn’t deploy the testy tone or combative style that RTÉ reserves for the kind of people they really dislike, such as, say, pro-lifers or EU sceptics. McDonald was given plenty time to make her case before there was some cross talk about whether the government was consulting with local communities before forcing them to accept asylum centres.
