A few weeks back I wrote an article about Ireland’s “anti-transparency”, or how the Government wields obfuscation in an astonishingly effective manner in order to evade accountability. It clearly gets that skill from its constituent parts, or would-be constituent parts, because this General Election cycle, a number of parties are taking their sweet time about telling us their plans, should the electorate entrust governing the country to them.
Looking for the parties’ 2024 manifestos a few days ago, some were found with ease while others sent you here, there and everywhere, leaving you empty-handed in the end. Of course, it’s up to the parties themselves when they release their full manifestos over the course of the campaign, but I’m starting to think it shouldn’t be.
