The Budget couldn’t have come at a better time for Government this year, the uncomfortable light shone on a number of financial scandals – costly gate repairs, the world’s most expensive bike shed, an exorbitantly-priced security hut – obscured by a cloud of unfathomably large numbers and budgetary backslapping.
The €442k modular homes for Ukrainian refugees have also garnered significant media and public attention in recent days, and while I don’t anticipate them making any greater a dent in the Government’s re-election chances than the previously-mentioned examples, the Ukrainian Rapid Build Modular Homes Programme is worthy of every bit of criticism and condemnation it gets.
