An Irish celebrity has today appeared at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court charged with engaging in sexual acts with an underage girl.
The public figure, a man in his forties, cannot be named for legal reasons. He is to face trial over three counts of engaging in sexual acts with a child under the age of 17 at locations in Dublin between August 2010 and December 2010.
A jury was today selected in the trial, which is set to begin tomorrow. The man denies all three charges against him, pleading not guilty on Monday.
Judge Patricia Ryan told members of the jury not to speak about the case outside of the jury room, while also ordering them not to investigate the allegations on their own, owing to the direction that they must come to a verdict on the basis of the evidence that is presented during the trial.
The trial, to start on Tuesday, is due to last four to five days.
