UNESCO is currently engaged in consultation over what may well turn out to be a very influential document in Ireland in the years to come with regards to early childhood care and education (ECCE). For good or for ill, who can say, but having read the brief 25 page document, there are certainly a couple of elements to keep an eye on going forward.
With children’s education across the western world – and certainly in Ireland – becoming a veritable battlefield as competing visions of what constitute appropriate material and educational aims for children duke it out, it strikes this parent of a young child as not only nice, but necessary, to keep an eye on those foundational texts governments are likely to lean on going forward.
